The application has two features: with the help of a picture of the front of banknotes it provides a method to validate the authenticity of banknotes, and it also offers an augmented reality experience related to the image on the back of banknotes.
In the application’s banknote validation module the user selects the front of the banknote denomination to be checked. Subsequently, the application helps the user to hold the device in the correct position by displaying messages on the mobile phone screen, then automatically takes a picture. After the photo is assessed the application sends feedback on the authenticity of the banknote.
The application offers an augmented reality (aka. AR) experience of the picture on the back. The background music is adjusted to the style characteristic of the age the picture depicts. Holding the mobile device to the picture on the back of the forint banknotes the AR launches automatically and the messages displayed on the screen guide the user for the perfect experience.
The application was developed in cooperation with the MNB; however, its feedback cannot be considered as the MNB’s professional opinion. Furthermore, the application does not serve as a substitute for professional devices validating banknote authenticity. Should users be uncertain about the authenticity of a specific forint banknote, it is advisable to have the banknote checked at a post office or a bank or in the MNB’s retail cash office.
